Association of same-day discharge with hospital readmission after pediatric thyroidectomy

This retrospective study of 1,125 pediatric thyroidectomy patients found that same-day discharge was not associated with increased 30-day readmission rates or wound complications compared to 1-2 day hospital stays. The findings suggest same-day discharge may be safe for selected pediatric patients undergoing thyroid surgery, though patients with total thyroidectomy were less likely to be discharged same-day.
