Surgical site infection after open and laparoscopic surgery in children: a systematic review and meta-analysis

This systematic review and meta-analysis of 17 RCTs found that laparoscopic appendectomy significantly reduces surgical site infection rates compared to open appendectomy in children (OR 2.22, p=0.01). No SSI benefit was found for laparoscopic fundoplication, hernia repair, or pyloromyotomy versus open approaches.
