Topic overview

Pancreatic duct stones (PDSs) are considered to be a complication of chronic pancreatitis (CP), with a reported prevalence of 50-90% in patients with longstanding CP [1]. PDSs are very uncommon in children without a definitive incidence rate. Patients develop recurrent pancreatitis and epigastric pain due to increased luminal pressure from pancreatic duct obstruction. PDSs aggravate the severe symptoms of endocrine and exocrine dysfunction and lead to pancreatic duct dilatation and even parenchymal atrophy [1].
