Timeliness of pediatric surgical appendicitis care is associated with time of hospital admission
Topic overview
Analysis of 113,662 pediatric appendectomies from 2010-2018 reveals an increasing trend of delaying evening-admission cases to the next calendar day. While short delays appear surgically safe with similar complication rates, next-day operations are associated with increased costs, longer hospital stays, and higher readmission rates.
