Prenatal diagnosis of intestinal nonrotation using magnetic resonance imaging: Is it possible?

Retrospective study of 10 cases demonstrates that intestinal nonrotation can be reliably detected on prenatal MRI, with coronal T2-weighted images optimal for small bowel assessment and T1-weighted images for colon visualization. All cases showed characteristic nonrotated bowel positioning on fetal MRI that matched postnatal findings, suggesting prenatal MRI may identify this malrotation subtype in fetuses with associated anomalies like heterotaxy syndrome.
