Clinical and Esophagoenteroduodenoscopy Findings in Pediatric Patients with Severe Obesity Evaluated Prior to Bariatric Surgery

Retrospective study of 80 adolescents with severe obesity undergoing preoperative EGD found macroscopic abnormalities in 54% and H. pylori in 44%, with 41% requiring medical treatment. High prevalence of metabolic comorbidities and elevated ALT suggests routine preoperative endoscopy is warranted in this population to identify treatable pathology before bariatric surgery.
