Vancomycin-lock therapy for prevention of catheter-related bloodstream infection in very low body weight infants

Retrospective study of 137 VLBW preterm infants demonstrates that vancomycin-lock therapy reduces catheter-related bloodstream infections from 21.7% to 4.4% compared to heparin alone, while also decreasing total antibiotic exposure time without detectable systemic vancomycin levels or adverse events.
