Kampo medicines Rikkunshito and Hangeshashinto prevent cisplatin-induced intestinal mucosal injury in rats

Preclinical study demonstrates that traditional Japanese kampo medicines rikkunshito and hangeshashinto protect against cisplatin-induced intestinal mucosal injury in rats by promoting enterocyte proliferation and reducing apoptosis. Both agents significantly improved diarrhea, villous atrophy, and histological injury scores in jejunum and ileum.
