Small tunneled central venous catheters as an alternative to a standard hemodialysis catheter in neonatal patients

Retrospective study of 26 neonates receiving CRRT found that 6Fr-tunneled central venous catheters lasted significantly longer than standard hemodialysis catheters (28 vs 10 days) with fewer mechanical complications, though infection rates were higher. The smaller tunneled catheters may offer more durable vascular access for neonatal CRRT despite increased infection risk.
