Preoperative resource utilization prior to minimally invasive repair of pectus excavatum

This two-center retrospective study of 360 pediatric patients undergoing minimally invasive pectus excavatum repair found that routine preoperative physiologic testing (PFTs, echocardiograms) yields predominantly normal results but may reduce insurance preauthorization denials. The findings question the clinical necessity of routine testing versus its role in meeting payor requirements.
