Correlation of anorectal malformation complexity and associated urologic abnormalities

Large retrospective study of 712 ARM patients demonstrates that urologic anomalies occur in 56-65% of cases and increase significantly with ARM complexity, particularly hydronephrosis and VUR. Males with bladder neck fistulae and females with long common channel cloacas show highest incidence, emphasizing need for early urologic screening.
