Hypoxic/ischemic hits predispose to necrotizing enterocolitis in (near) term infants with congenital heart disease: a case control study

Case-control study of 32 term infants with congenital heart disease reveals those who developed necrotizing enterocolitis had significantly lower Apgar scores and required more delivery room respiratory support, supporting hypoxic-ischemic pathophysiology. Findings suggest perinatal hypoxia/ischemia predisposes CHD infants to NEC development.
