Long-term Impact of Abusive Head Trauma in Young Children: Outcomes at 5 and 11 Years Old

Longitudinal study of 1,165 children with abusive head trauma demonstrates high rates of neurodevelopmental disability (68% at age 5, rising to 82% at age 11), with younger age at injury (<1 year) associated with worse outcomes. Findings underscore the need for comprehensive long-term follow-up protocols for AHT survivors.
