The association of inborn status and resource utilization among neonates who received extracorporeal membrane oxygenation

Retrospective study of 5,152 neonates receiving ECMO found that inborn patients had significantly longer hospital stays, higher costs, and increased mortality compared to outborn patients. Inborn neonates more frequently had cardiac diagnoses and congenital diaphragmatic hernia, suggesting they represent a higher-risk population requiring different care considerations.
