Diagnostic Value of Clinical Prediction Scores for Acute Appendicitis in Children Younger than 4 Years
Topic overview
This retrospective study evaluated three clinical scoring systems (Alvarado, AIR, and PAS) for diagnosing appendicitis in children under 4 years. While all three scores showed moderate diagnostic value, none achieved sufficient accuracy to independently diagnose appendicitis in this age group. PAS combined with ultrasound showed the most promise for clinical decision-making.
