Preoperative Blood Transfusions and Morbidity in Neonates Undergoing Surgery

Analysis of 12,184 neonatal surgical cases reveals preoperative blood transfusions independently increase 30-day morbidity and mortality risk, even after controlling for baseline patient differences. Findings highlight the need for evidence-based transfusion guidelines in neonatal surgery.
