The Outcome of Blood Transfusions in Conservative and Surgical Necrotizing Enterocolitis and Spontaneous Intestinal Perforation

Retrospective study of 113 neonates with NEC and SIP found that preoperative blood transfusions, particularly those given more than 48 hours before surgery, correlated with increased 2-week mortality in surgical NEC cases but did not affect intestinal loss or parenteral nutrition duration.
