Coagulation complications after conversion from roller to centrifugal pump in neonatal and pediatric extracorporeal membrane oxygenation

Retrospective study comparing roller versus centrifugal pumps in neonatal/pediatric ECMO found that centrifugal pumps had higher hemorrhagic complication rates without reducing thrombotic events, though without serious therapeutic consequences. Experience with centrifugal pumps did not improve outcomes over time.
