An Important Risk Factor Affecting Hypercalciuria in Children: Vesicoureteral Reflux

This retrospective study of 165 pediatric patients demonstrates that untreated vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is associated with elevated urinary calcium excretion comparable to stone-forming patients, with higher-grade reflux correlating with increased hypercalciuria. Surgical correction of VUR normalizes calcium excretion to control levels, suggesting VUR treatment may reduce stone risk.
