Portosystemic shunt for portal hypertension after Kasai operation in patients with biliary atresia

Retrospective study of 11 biliary atresia patients who underwent portosystemic shunting for portal hypertension after Kasai portoenterostomy demonstrates that selective shunt placement can effectively delay or avoid liver transplantation, with 10-year transplant-free survival of 72.7% and manageable long-term complications.
