Outcomes Following Pouch Formation in Paediatric Ulcerative Colitis: A Study From the Porto Group of ESPGHAN

Multicenter study of 129 pediatric ulcerative colitis patients undergoing ileal pouch-anal anastomosis found 67% developed pouchitis over median 40-month follow-up, with surgeon experience (<10 surgeries/year) being the primary modifiable risk factor for chronic pouchitis. Despite higher complication rates in children under 10 years, functional outcomes remained comparable across age groups.
