Enhanced recovery after surgery and anesthetic outcomes in pediatric reconstructive urologic surgery

This prospective study demonstrates that implementing an ERAS protocol in pediatric urologic reconstruction with bowel anastomosis significantly reduces postoperative pain scores and opioid use, with 15% of patients requiring no opioids versus 0% in controls. The protocol also decreased supplemental oxygen requirements, suggesting broader perioperative benefits beyond pain management.
