Positive Orientation and Health-related Quality of Life in Adult Patients Born With Anorectal Malformations

Study of 66 adult patients with anorectal malformations demonstrates that psychological positivity—encompassing life satisfaction, self-esteem, and optimism—significantly mediates the relationship between fecal continence and both physical and mental quality of life. Findings suggest that fostering positive psychological outlook may improve long-term outcomes in ARM patients beyond functional surgical results alone.
