Routine Ultrasound Control after Successful Intussusception Reduction in Children: Is It Really Necessary?

This retrospective study of 373 ileocolic intussusception episodes demonstrates that routine ultrasound before restarting oral feeding in asymptomatic children after successful enema reduction does not reduce recurrence rates (10.3% vs 10.8%). The findings challenge traditional practice protocols and suggest ultrasound may be safely omitted in stable patients, potentially reducing hospital stay and healthcare costs.
