Association of Nonoperative Management Using Antibiotic Therapy vs Laparoscopic Appendectomy With Treatment Success and Disability Days in Children With Uncomplicated Appendicitis

Multi-institutional study of 1,068 children with uncomplicated appendicitis compared antibiotic-only treatment versus laparoscopic appendectomy. Nonoperative management achieved 67% success at one year with significantly fewer disability days (6.6 vs 10.9 days) than surgery, though fell slightly below the prespecified 70% success threshold.
