Impaired Bone Health in Children With Biliary Atresia
Topic overview
Finnish cohort study of 49 biliary atresia patients reveals 14% developed rickets in infancy and 22% experienced bone fractures during childhood. While most patients achieved normal bone mineral density by age 5-10 regardless of transplant status, clearance of jaundice post-portoenterostomy was protective against rickets.
