Concomitant gastrostomy tube insertion during laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication for gastro-esophageal reflux disease: analysis of risk factors for fundoplication failure

Multi-institutional study of 189 children shows concomitant gastrostomy tube placement during laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication does not increase failure rates (15% vs 17%). Prematurity emerged as the strongest predictor of fundoplication failure in the combined procedure group, with esophageal atresia and endoscopy-assisted GT technique also showing associations.
