Implementation of a contextually appropriate pediatric emergency surgical care course in Uganda

Pilot training course in Uganda addressed critical shortage of pediatric surgeons by upskilling nonspecialist rural providers in emergency surgical care. Three-day curriculum covering neonatal emergencies, trauma, and perioperative management significantly improved knowledge scores (55% to 72%, p<0.0001) among 45 participants and catalyzed local surgical outreach programs.
