Caustic Ingestion in Children: 1 Year Experience in 3 Italian Referral Centers

Retrospective study of 44 pediatric caustic ingestion cases across three Italian centers found alkaline agents caused more severe esophageal injury than acids. Endoscopy is essential for symptomatic patients but may be safely avoided in asymptomatic children after suspected accidental ingestion without oropharyngeal burns.
