Incidence Trends, Comorbidities, and Outcomes of Pyogenic Liver Abscess Among Children: A Nationwide Population-based Analysis

Nationwide analysis of 4,075 pediatric pyogenic liver abscess cases from 2003-2014 shows a 60% incidence increase, with hepatobiliary malignancy and liver transplant as top risk factors. Streptococcus and Staphylococcus were most common pathogens, with 0.8% mortality and strong associations with severe sepsis and inflammatory bowel disease.
