Upregulation of High Mobility Group Box 1 May Contribute to the Pathogenesis of Biliary Atresia

Study demonstrates elevated serum HMGB1 levels in infants with biliary atresia correlate with gamma-glutamyl transferase, suggesting HMGB1 plays a role in BA pathogenesis. Findings indicate HMGB1 may serve as a novel diagnostic biomarker for this progressive inflammatory cholangiopathy.
