Comparison of total midgut volvulus and segmental volvulus in neonates

Retrospective study of 44 neonates with intestinal volvulus found total midgut volvulus (TMV) was easier to diagnose preoperatively but carried higher morbidity when resection was needed, while segmental volvulus (SV) required resection in 94% of cases but showed favorable outcomes. TMV was universally associated with malrotation, whereas SV was not.
