Diagnostic accuracy of abdominal ultrasound to detect pathology that needs surgical exploration in children with umbilical discharge

Retrospective study of 81 pediatric patients evaluating ultrasound accuracy for detecting surgical pathology in umbilical discharge. Results showed limited diagnostic performance with 71% sensitivity and 72% specificity, suggesting ultrasound has restricted value in clinical decision-making for this indication despite experienced radiologists.
