Tissue engineering: from the bedside to the bench and back to the bedside

This review traces the 30-year evolution of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine from laboratory science to clinical application, highlighting the pioneering role of pediatric surgeons in advancing the field. While the technology has not yet reached its full potential, several therapies have successfully progressed from concept to patient care, particularly in pediatric surgical populations.
