Timing and volume of crystalloid and blood products in pediatric trauma: An Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma multicenter prospective observational study

This multicenter prospective study of 712 pediatric trauma patients found that crystalloid-sparing resuscitation with early blood transfusion improved outcomes compared to traditional crystalloid-first approaches. Each additional crystalloid bolus after the first was associated with increased ventilator time and hospital length of stay, supporting early transfusion protocols in injured children.
