Changes in Incidence and Management of Acute Appendicitis in Children—A Population-Based Study in the Period 2000–2015

This Danish population study of 24,046 pediatric appendicitis cases (2000-2015) reveals a 29% decline in incidence until 2008, a dramatic shift from open to laparoscopic appendectomy (97% to 94%), and reduced hospital stays from 41 to 17 hours median, reflecting evolving surgical practice patterns in Western countries.
