Enablers of psychosocial recovery in pediatric burns: perspectives from the children, parents and burn recovery support staff
Topic overview
Qualitative study with 15 burned children, 15 caregivers, and 12 staff in South Africa identifies three key enablers of psychosocial recovery: presence and reassurance from family/friends, normalizing interactions that affirm the child's identity, and sensitization/protection during school reintegration. Findings emphasize that supportive relationships throughout hospitalization and community re-entry are critical to pediatric burn recovery beyond physical healing.
