Open transumbilical intussusception reduction in children: A prospective study

This prospective randomized study compared open transumbilical intussusception reduction (OTIR) to laparoscopic reduction in children who failed pneumatic reduction. OTIR demonstrated equivalent safety and efficacy with significantly shorter operative time (47.7 vs 68.6 min) and lower cost ($1260 vs $1751), making it a viable first-line surgical option.
