Selective use of sternal elevation before substernal dissection in more than 2000 Nuss repairs at a single institution

Retrospective analysis of 2,037 Nuss repairs demonstrates that selective sternal elevation before substernal tunnel creation is safe in primary cases, with no cardiac injuries observed. However, two cardiac injuries occurred in patients with previous sternotomy, and infection rates remained comparable regardless of sternal elevation use.
