Relative value units do not adequately account for operative time in pediatric urology

Analysis of 25,432 pediatric urology cases reveals that the work RVU reimbursement system disproportionately favors shorter procedures, with each additional operative hour decreasing compensation rate by 4.2 wRVU/h. Longer, more complex procedures with higher complication rates receive inadequate compensation relative to their increased difficulty and time requirements.
