Single Gland, Ectopic Location: Adenomas are Common Causes of Primary Hyperparathyroidism in Children and Adolescents

Multi-institutional study of 86 pediatric PHPT patients reveals that 71% had single adenomas with notably high ectopic rates (25%), most commonly intrathymic location. Cure rate was 98% with experienced surgical management, emphasizing the importance of specialized expertise given the high incidence of ectopic glands in this age group.
