Mirrored Ribs: A Sign for Pneumothorax in Neonates
Topic overview
This retrospective study validates 'mirrored ribs' as a novel ultrasound sign for neonatal pneumothorax, demonstrating 100% sensitivity and specificity when combined with absence of lung sliding and B-lines. Lung ultrasound detected pneumothorax in 55% of cases versus 31% by chest radiograph, identifying all radiograph-positive cases plus additional occult pneumothoraces.
