Tidal volumes at birth as predictor for adverse outcome in congenital diaphragmatic hernia

This prospective study of 30 CDH infants found that lower tidal volumes during spontaneous breathing immediately after birth predict mortality and chronic lung disease. Tidal volume ≤2.2 mL/kg predicted mortality with 79% sensitivity and 81% specificity, though not independently after adjusting for lung-to-head ratio and liver position.
