Impact of Age of Patient and Experience of Surgeon on the Outcome after Kasai Portoenterostomy: Can We Delay the Surgery?

This single-center study of 54 infants with biliary atresia found that surgeon experience had greater impact on early jaundice clearance and 2-year native liver survival than patient age at operation. Results suggest delaying Kasai portoenterostomy to ensure a more experienced surgeon may improve outcomes despite conventional emphasis on early intervention.
