Bowel function after transanal endorectal pull-through for Hirschsprung disease – does outcome improve over time?

This longitudinal study of 50 Hirschsprung disease patients demonstrates that bowel dysfunction persists into adolescence and early adulthood following transanal endorectal pull-through, with no improvement over a median 7-year follow-up period. Over half experience ongoing soiling, and one-quarter require bowel management programs despite surgical correction in childhood.
