Hirschsprung disease and anorectal malformations — An uncommon association

Large cohort study demonstrates that concurrent Hirschsprung disease and anorectal malformation occurs in only 0.17% of ARM patients, far less common than previously reported. Highlights diagnostic pitfall: rectal biopsies in ARM patients may falsely appear aganglionotic, risking unnecessary pull-through procedures that cause incontinence.
