Treatment of megarectum in anorectal malformation with emphasis on preventive aspects: 17 years experience

17-year retrospective study comparing conservative management versus surgical excision for megarectum in ARM patients found no functional benefit from excision, which carried 43% major complication rate and frequent need for ACE or stoma. Strategic preventive measures reduced megarectum incidence from 26% to 4% after 2013.
