Short-term surgical trips: local collaboration and its effects on complications and patient satisfaction

Retrospective study of 474 pediatric surgeries performed during short-term surgical missions demonstrates that collaboration between visiting and local surgeons yields low complication rates (2.1%) and high patient satisfaction (83.5%). Engaging local providers in care delivery strengthens healthcare infrastructure and ensures appropriate follow-up after visiting teams depart.
