Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Support for Pediatric Burn Patients: Is It Worth the Risk?

Retrospective analysis of 113 pediatric burn patients requiring ECMO support shows 55.7% survival for respiratory failure cases, with venovenous ECMO achieving 62.2% survival. Bleeding complications were comparable to other surgical populations at 22.1%, and survival reached 70% when burns involved less than 60% total body surface area.
