Modified percutaneous internal ring suturing with peritoneal injury in children: matched comparison to open hernia repair.

Retrospective matched comparison of 90 pediatric patients undergoing modified percutaneous internal ring suturing (PIRS) with thermal peritoneal injury versus open inguinal hernia repair found comparable recurrence rates, complication rates, and operative times between techniques. PIRS detected and repaired contralateral patent processus vaginalis in 25.6% of cases, demonstrating safety and efficacy comparable to traditional open repair.
